Funded PhD and MSc Positions — Trustworthy Computing & Distributed Technologies Laboratory, Winter 2026
TCDT lab has one funded PhD and up to two MSc positions available for Winter 2027. The research focuses on the intersection of decentralized systems and cybersecurity. These positions are within the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary.
We are seeking motivated students with expertise and a strong interest in one or more of the following areas:
- Blockchain and Smart Contracts
- Decentralized and Federated Machine Learning (e.g., Federated / Split Learning)
- Applications of Agentic Systems and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) in Automated Vulnerability Detection
- Layer 2 Solutions (e.g., Rollups)
- Blockchain Interoperability
- Decentralized Identity
Requirements:
- A degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. A minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicants whose first language is not English are required to provide proof of English proficiency. However, those who have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree taught in English program may be exempt from this requirement. The required english scores include:
- TOEFL iBT (tests taken before January 21, 2026): 97 (minimum 23 in each section)
- TOEFL iBT (tests taken on or after January 21, 2026): 5.0 (minimum 5.0 in each section)
- ELTS (Academic): 7.0 (minimum 6.5 in each section)
- PTE (Academic): 76 (minimum 70 in each section)
- Duolingo English Test: 135 (minimum sub-score 125)
- Applicants with a bachelor’s or Master's degree taught in English may be exempt from graduate English proficiency test.
